On Saturday, May 1, approximately 100 World War II veterans are taking an all-expenses-paid day trip from CT to DC to see the memorial honoring them.  This trip is organized and provided by AmericanWarrior, which is a nonprofit organization headquartered in Norwich.   You can find their website here: http://www.americanwarrior.us/index.html

AmericanWarrior is looking for DC-based volunteers to spend the day with the veterans make their “Day of Honor” one to remember.

The DC portion of the Day of Honor starts with an amazing welcome ceremony at National Airport (which typically includes a water cannon salute, patriotic music from the NSO Brass Quintet, and lots of cheering and flag-waving from groups of soldiers, Boy Scouts, and other volunteer groups).  The rest of the day is spent touring the monuments with the veterans - pushing wheelchairs, getting water, taking photos, and listening to their stories.  The main focus of the day is seeing the WWII Memorial, but the trip organizers typically leave some time to visit the other monuments and memorials as well.
The time commitment is roughly 10am - 6:30 pm on Saturday, May 1.   T-shirts, lunch, and plenty of water are provided.
