Holiday Wreath-Laying at Arlington National Cemetery

We know it's a busy time of year, but we hope you can take a brief amount of time this coming weekend to join us for an important volunteer opportunity to honor the men and women of Connecticut and the nation who have served in the military.

On Saturday, December 11, the Connecticut Society will join the Maine State Society and thousands of other volunteers in a wreath-laying ceremony at Arlington Cemetery.  Morrill Worcester, owner of Worcester Wreath Company, Harrington, Maine, will again donate thousands of Maine balsam fir holiday wreaths to be placed on graves at Arlington National Cemetery.

This year, in conjunction with wreaths sponsored through the Wreaths Across America program, there will be approximately 20,000 wreaths placed at Arlington in Sections 28, 38, 43 (in the older section of the Cemetery), and Section 60 where many of those lost in our current conflicts are buried.  There will be a short welcome and briefing of all volunteers at 8:30 a.m. at the intersection of Lincoln and Mitchell Drives within the Cemetery.  There will be signs directing you to the location.  Volunteers will start placing wreaths at approximately 9:00 a.m.  There will also be special wreath ceremonies at the Kennedy Family Memorial at 11:00 a.m.; at the Battleship USS Maine Monument at 11:30 a.m. and at the Tomb of the Unknowns at Noontime.

Connecticut Society members will be assembling at 8:00 a.m. at the International Square Starbucks (1825 Eye Street, at the top of the escalator at the 18th Street exit of Farragut West Metro Station) to head over to the Cemetery as a group.

Participating in the wreath-laying ceremony continues the Connecticut Society's tradition of supporting the men and women who have served in our nation's military. In the past several years, we have participated in American Warrior's Day of Honor for World War II veterans and flown the Connecticut flag at the National Moment of Remembrance at the U.S. Capitol.

During this season of giving, please join us in honoring the fallen soldiers at Arlington. If you plan to meet up with the Connecticut Society group, please RSVP online by clicking here.   If you have any questions, please contact Meg at meg.staley@gmail.com or 860-334-3991.
